Down the Rabbit-Hole

My "baby" for this class was a pretty easy decision. Since older books are more likely to be beautifully printed and bound, I chose the only pre-1930's book I like, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Throughout my blog, I will be studying three different versions of the book.

The first version I will be studying is this one from Penguin. It is printed in a more classic style, with all of John Tenniel's original illustrations.

The Penguin Classics edition I will be studying, published in 2010.
The second version I will be studying is this one. It is the unabridged original text, but includes all new illustrations by Camille Rose Garcia, one of my favorite artists.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, as illustrated by Camille Rose Garcia. 2010.

Lastly, I will be looking at the version of the book published and distributed as the first edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. As Professor Ingersoll mentioned in class, the actual first edition of the book was scrapped and sent to America. The link above also mentions this.

The front cover, back cover, and spine of the first edition. 1866.

The only version of Alice I owned prior to this class is included in this 10-volume set of children's books. My dad gave me the entire set when I was younger; it was his when he was a kid. I dug through a couple of the five or six big boxes of books in my closet in an attempt to find it, but had no luck. If I do happen to find it before the semester is over, I may make a special post about it.

Since I could not find my copy, I went to BAM!, hoping to find something like this. I picked up the Penguin Classics version of Alice instead. I have had my eye on the Garcia-illustrated version for a while, so I decided to pick it up as well.

I am looking forward to my adventure in Wonderland, and discovering the elements that make Alice's Adventures in Wonderland a beautiful book.

Obligatory "Hiiiiii!" Post

This is the first post, but not the "real" first post. This is a post for me to make sure things look the way I want them to look. I tried WordPress. Not enough customization for me. I'm not paying $30 to be able to change all the colors. It was...very minimalist, which usually appeals to me, but too minimalist even for me (is "too minimalist" even a thing?). So I ran screaming (not really) to Blogger, where I feel comfortable, and can look at my nail polish blogs when I should be doing homework. :)
